Transgulf Readymix is among the few global suppliers to complete a project involving over one million cubic meters of concrete. The project featured an on-site batching plant and included a 2.2 km cut-and-cover tunnel and a 1.2 km road. It aims to double current traffic capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 cars per hour, enabling a continuous “green drive” with no traffic signals.

The busiest phase was in May 2010 when 72,000 m³ of concrete were delivered in the midst of the hottest season. Steam curing was incorporated for 4,000 precast pre-stressed I-beam concrete girders while achieving 44 mPa within 16 hours.
Samsung C&T was grateful for Transgulf Readymix’s perfect safety record for this project. We had absolutely no safety incidents and it was one of the highlight mentions in Samsung C&T’s appreciation letter.

Etihad Rail (Package 2C)
Package 2C is a crucial part of Stage 2 of the Etihad Rail Project, spanning 100 kilometers to connect the Saudi and GCC Rail Network in the west with the Oman Border in the east. It includes 80 kilometers of mainline and a 20-kilometer branch to Jebel Ali Port, featuring double tracks through urban and industrial zones, and is intended for both freight and future passenger transport.

Track and Civil Works
Track Work
Includes both ballasted and slab tracks, along with switches and crossings.
Access Infrastructure
Involves the construction of highways and access roads, overbridge approaches, road realignments, vehicle protection, lighting, pavement, drainage, utility works, line markings, and signage.
Structures
Covers the building of railway structures such as underbridges, underpasses, overbridges, pipeline crossings, environmental culverts, camel crossings, noise barriers, and fencing.
Earthworks
Involves formation and sub-ballast construction, as well as windblown sand mitigation zones.
Drainage
Includes the development of drainage basins and channels for effective water management.
Embankment Protection
Focuses on erosion and scour protection for railway embankments.
Alignments & Interfaces
The Stage 2C network includes three main alignments: DMB, DMC, and JBL. DMB and DMC run through open desert areas planned for future development, while the JBL alignment links them to Jebel Ali Port, connecting with existing roads, interchanges, and developments.
Key interfaces include:
- Jebel Ali Port
- E11, E311, and E611 Crossings (RTA Corridors)
- DEWA and Transco Overhead High Voltage Lines
- DIP Road Corridor (currently under construction)
- Desert Mainlines parallel to E611
- Existing Utilities and Structure Interfaces
The rail corridor proposed features a varying right-of-way width due to these constraints.
Alignment Details
- DMB Alignment: 26 km of double track with 14 turnouts and provisions for 19 more; connects to Package 2B and allows for future Dubai South passenger station, including various underpasses and bridges.
- DMC Alignment: 49 km of double track with 12 turnouts and provisions for 23 more; connects to Package 2D, includes two set-off tracks with buffer stops, underpasses, and bridges.
- JBL Alignment: 19 km of mostly single track with two passing loops, 5 turnouts, and space for 6 additional ones; connects to Jebel Ali Rail Terminal.

Route 2020
Route 2020 is an extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line, connecting Nakheel Harbor and Tower station to the Expo 2020 site. It features a 2 km TBM-bored tunnel and 10 km of elevated track, including five elevated stations and two underground stations, aiming to integrate the Expo site with the existing metro network.

The construction of elevated and underground stations, along with cut-and-cover tunnel sections, involved staged casting of raft, concourse, and roof slabs connected to diaphragm walls. Each underground station's raft foundation was divided into 24 segments averaging 3.5 meters thick, totaling over 36,500 m³ of concrete. Cut-and-cover tunnel excavations were supported by shotcrete, and over 200 pile caps and piers were cast using Transgulf Readymix concrete along the route from Nakheel Harbor to the Expo 2020 site.

This major tunneling project, part of Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 with a 5.7 billion dirham investment, aims to expand the city’s sewerage network. The 45 km tunnel, with a 6-meter diameter, connects Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland, ranging from 24 m to 80 m deep. It increases wastewater treatment capacity from 450,000 m³/day to 800,000 m³/day. Designed for a 100-year lifespan in a highly aggressive environment, the project required specially developed concrete mixes to withstand high chloride and sulphate exposure.
